Fly Fish Iceland

Hölkná

The Hölká river is located in Iceland's North East and flows into Thistilfjordur between the more famous rivers of Svalbardsa and Hafralonsa. Over previous years the river lease has been held by a group of wealthy Swiss anglers and it is believed that catch records are largely in accurate. What we do know is this river is intimate and entertaining and going on this years experience big fresh fish run the river right into the middle of August. The river is designated as two rods but much of the canyon sections are best fished as one rod with the remaining rod obseving the action. There are many places where the fly has to be in just the right place and this means accurate casting and a keen eye. The lower river offers fresh char and on a rising tide fresh Salmon can be found in the sea pool. This is an enchanting river that offers the same big fish and varied waters of it's neigbours but on a more private basis.
