Fly Fish Iceland

Hölkná: Fishing

Hölkná is a two rod river and as such can be divided in anyway. The majority of fishing during the prime time is on the upper river where it is often best to fish only one rod with one spotting. The upper pools have high cliffs and offer very visual fishing. However despite the high cliffs many of the pools are relatively easy to access and only one requires the use of a rope. The middle section has more traditionalfly pools and below these is a further steep canyon. The lower river contains a beautiful Sea pool where you can catch fresh Char and even Grilse on a rising tide, whilst looking out to sea.All fishing is catch and release and the river requires at least one guide depending on ability. The river benefits hugely from a gentle approach so be prepared to spend less than the usual 12 hours per day fishing.
