Iceland is host to intricate and delicate eco systems that benefit from the low population of the country. However as the impact, both positive and negative, of tourism increases, there is an ever present need to protect this most precious and beautiful land. Iceland is very conscious of the environmental impact of continued development of the country and as such have very stringent rules regarding the implementation of any works that may affect the physical environment. To this end our Icelandic partners embrace a number of ecological works in rivers to protect this precious resource.
Ecology v's Economy...
Lax consists of individuals and friends with two common passions – an unmitigated love of their home country and a devotion to the protection and proliferation of the fish species that exist in her rivers. Lax know the value of fly fishers and the present and future role we must all play seeking to protect and nurture the natural habitat of these most honourable fish. At the same time Lax offer an inviting, comfortable and engaging environment to those likeminded sportsmen and conservationists who would venture to Icelandic rivers seeking an unforgettable experience.
Case Studies:
Consistently striving to improve each and every river with which it has management involvement, Hreggnasi ehf has made bold (and often financially costly) decisions to protect the natural breeding stock in rivers, for example by closing the Laxa in Kjos to fishing from Thorufoss (an impassable waterfall and salmon 'trap') to Skuggi, creating a haven for fish in the upper river at the expense of catch statistics, but for the long term well-being of the river. Lax currently has major projects unerway on rivers such as Vesturdalsa (north east) and Korpa (actually in Reykjavik!)
