OCTOBER 5th 2012:

A Generally Tough 2012 for Icelandic Rivers:

As we open the charts to another fishing season in Iceland, we look back over what has been a generally dissappointing 2012 season. After several seasons of very strong runs, the fishing in nearly all rivers was well below parr with runs very thin after mid July.

Fly Fish Iceland/Fly Fisher Group 2012 Highlights:

Whilst we would never wishes any fisher in Iceland to have poor fishing, we were pleased that many of our clients fished rivers that held their own and produced good fishing generally - like Svalbardsa, Hofsa, Midfjardara and Nordura & Langa in the early periods.

Some of our other rivers suffered a tougher season but had glory moments like Laxa in Kjos having some exceptional sea trout fishing throughout mid July including multiple fish either side of 10lbs on dry flies - simply staggeering quality fishing and none of the close to 200 sea trout between 3 and 13lbs featuring the the catch stats that are issued!!

All in all a great many of our fishers and their family members landed their first atlantic salmon in 2012, an equally great many sucessfully tried new techniques and saw their first salmon come to the fly through the clear water that is such a speacial feature of Icelandic rivers. Likewise some of our fishers in the north eastern rivers landed their biggest ever salmon - several were close to 20lbs. As ever the quality of service, guides, chefs and lodge staff and rivers leaves many operations in many countries with a lot to live up to.when compared to Iceland.

Looking Forward to 2013:

The positive to take from the low returns from 2012 is that rarely in Icelandic salmon history do two seasons in a row give very poor runs. Therefore we look to 2013 with great optimism and no small amount of excitement, hoping for lots of fresh fish pouring into our rivers on each tide from late June into mid August.

Ather positive to note is that the Fly Fish Iceland/Fly Fisher Group pricing will not be rising in most cases from 2012 and where it does we have managed to hold rises to a bare minimum. In fact, in some rivers, we have negotiated with eriver owners and leaseholders for prices to go down a little to reflect tougher than usual 2012 fishing - which in turn presents a great opportunity for fishers to secure prime time fishing at good prices. 2013 prices and availability for the following rivers can be seen of the AVAILABILITY page of this website:
